It's a mixed bag, from what I've heard.
Some work, and others simply create a host of problems.
Best test and simply to jump in.
good luck.

Does anybody have experience with speed upgrade cards/stability?
I've just gone through hell upgrading a Sawtooth (AGP)G4/400 to a 1.4 machine.
After upgrading memory, PCI cards, and the processor, the computer fairly screams.
I've had decent stability, but can I trust this system?
I tried a Sonnet card, but ended up with the Other World Computing processor upgrade. It has it's own fan built in to the heat sink.
It reports the speed properly and some effects are in boldface, but when I go to use them, they still require rendering (red line instead of green). Is there a setting in preferences that will allow me to see rt?
Thanks
Michael Moser
I've been seriously considering buying a OWC processor upgrade myself(to put in a Sawtooth 400). According to OWC they are plug and play. What kind of problems have you delt with? What kind of RAM did you upgrade to? I believe my machine has a 100mhz bus and will only handle the PC100 SDRAM. Concerning RT play back, isn't there a limit as to how many track will play back even if effect is in bold? How many tracks are you tring to play back?

They may be "plug and play" for mainstream applications, but the issues, from what I've seen, arise when the upgrade is dealing with data and cpu intensive tasks such as video.
But that's my opinion, only.
There is an issue w/FCP and some upgrade CPUs. This does not pertain to OWC CPUs inability to handle video, but FCPs need to read a certain CPU size.
Check this out.

The link just doesn't work.
Again, if you do this for living, minimize your variables.
That's just my orientation.
