I'm about to move up to OS10.3 and FCP4 and need bigger hard drives to replace the 30&75GB IBM's I have now which are both a few years old and I think ready for retirement.
Is there any one manufacturer generally considered to be the best choice at the moment,or any ones to avoid?.I've heard bad things about Maxtor.
I think I've narrowed it down to either Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 series or Western Digital Caviar Special Edition both of which I can get with a 3year warranty.
What would most of the guys around here be using?.
Is there any real advantage in an 8mb buffer over 2mb.?
Hope someone can help me with this.
Many thanks,
Martin.

I'd get the Seagate with Fluid Dynamic Bearings, instead of the traditional ball-bearing type HDs. They are virtually silent, run cooler and therefore last longer. 8mb cache with any of the drives would be beneficial for video work.

Over at creativemac there is a great article by Charles McConathy - founded or Micronet and Promax on various hard drive configs.
