Hey,

I'm considering upgrading my PB G4 1Ghz hard drive from a 60GB 4200rpm 8mb cache to a 60GB 5400rpm 16mb cache. My FCP editing has been limited lately, but I do have my HD set up with a video capture partition, which has worked perfectly (read: no dropped frames on capture or playback) when I have used it. My thought is that I'm going to stay with this machine as long as I can and that the extra speed and cache will optimize the machine for multiple application use as well as for FCP use. I have the max of 1GB of RAM and am running FCP 3 on 10.3 w/out problems. Any constructive input on this idea, both in terms of expected results with FCP and general system peformance with multiple apps, would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
J

Chech out this barefeats.com multiple notebook HD speed test.

I don't think you're going to gain much, and you'll lose something in battery life.

Barefeats.com should confirm that.

I totally forgot about barefeats.com. Even though that test was for the 60 GB 7200rpm, I just looked at the 80GB GN and compared it to the 60GB GAX, which gave me the answer: probably not worth it. Thanks guys.
