View Full Version : PAL deck for FCP 3 system

I just got back from shooting and I want to begin editing my footage. I have PAL DV and since the material I am working with originates in Europe I want to keep working in PAL, though the final output will be in NTSC but that is very long down the line. I am in Los Angeles. What I am doing now is taking what footage I have (documentary project) and editing it into a demo and with that I will look for completion funds.

So that is my intent. My question is: I want to buy a DV deck or some sort of DV input device, I would consider a camera, but I probably would not use the camera for any production purposes. I have looked at the Sony DSR-11 DVCAM and the Panasonic AG-DV250. But I don't really know enough about the gear to make any educated guess if I should go with one of these or something else, maybe something less expensive (yay!)

Another question is can I make a NTSC VHS dub from one of these decks?

Am I better off renting a deck? What are weekly/monthly rentals going for these days?

I hope that is clear.

Thanks

Hi,

The DSR-11 is a good choice because it records and plays back both Pal and NTSC.

You can make an NTSC VHS dub from the DSR-11 from an NSTC DV or DVCAM tape. It won't convert a PAL tape to NTSC output.
