Greetings everyone;

I've been doing some novice editing on my PC (AMD 200+, 1.66GHz, 224RAM) with Premiere 6. My wife was nice enough to get me a Powerbook G3 266 Wallstreet for both my birthday and my introduction to the world of Mac.

I am looking at upgrading the PB with a new processor (Bluechip or Crescendo), maxing out the RAM to 512, adding a 32 GB HD and installing an external Ratoc Firewire (with the possiblity of adding an external 250 GB HD for a scratch disc). I would like to run FCP 3 for my NLE.

I am hoping to move up the prosumer level eventually and I am just wondering if this is a good start or if should just save up my pennies, cut to the chase and get the G5.

Any advice, configuration/hardware/software suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Yes, although not necessarily a G5.

Video on any platform needs to have a minimum of potential for issues.

Upgrading that Wallstreet as you suggested creates a whole bunch of potential problems.

If you want to move up in do this seriously, then consider a solid system rather than one that many would view as being cobbled together.

good luck.

if you can, get a low-end G5, if you can afford it. and check prices in early jan after mac world sf. you made the right choice for DV-mac and OS X are the way to go. best.
