Sony Imageworks Seeks Technical Manager

The technical manager is responsible for managing technology development projects within the Development Group, across multiple shows, and in conjunction with other divisions, i.e. Sony Pictures Animation and Sony Corporate. The position must partner with producers, VFX supervisors, CG supervisors, departments heads, engineers, and artists to define technology and workflow requirements to meet the needs of productions and facility initiatives. The technical manager must effectively communicate between teams in a rapidly changing production environment. The ideal candidate will have working knowledge and experience within Live Action VFX or Animated Technology (Software and Systems) departments. In addition they must have excellent communication and be able to interact with all areas and levels within production.
Facility Responsibilities:

• This position must have a hands-on knowledge of Computer Graphics software, research & development in order to facilitate the projects assigned to it.
• Work with CG leadership to ensure that show-specific software needs are met. Participate in pre-show planning as well as regular show tech meetings. Deliver status information for projects in their domain.
• Partner with technology groups to structure, plan, and execute the required work to bring the studio's pipeline into alignment with strategic technology goals.
• Must have the technical know-how to discover opportunities to optimize and enhance artist’s interactions with the pipeline and production resources.
• Keep up-to-date on current industry technologies and techniques
• Be involved in outside discussions with 3rd party vendors as these discussions relate to pipeline initiatives.
• Facilitate clear communication with productions and technical departments to generate milestones and schedules.

Requirements

• Experience in a technical capacity within Live Action VFX, or Animation
• Experience working with and knowledge of Maya, Shake, Nuke, Renderman and other Computer Graphics Software.
• Knowledge of scripting a plus.
• Experience managing a large team under aggressive deadlines.
• Strong organizational and project management skills.
