Default Basic pulldown

I'm working on a project on the post office. Confused about FCP pulldown process. Working with 24P HD video downloaded from uspsvideo.com. It's 24P but the FCP timeline and other video is 29.97. Does just putting the video in a 29.97 timeline and rendering do the pulldown automatically?

Impossible to help without knowing more about the footage. What camera was it shot in, what is the codec, etc.

I'm downloading one of the USPS HD clips as I write this response.

Note that these clips are only cleared for news media use.

What I do see is that these are H.264 clips so convert to an editing format before you attempt to work with them. I would suggest ProRes 422 would be adequate (or possibly even ProRes LT).

The SD clips I downloaded were definitely DV 720x480 29.97

Transcoded to ProRes and it is 1280x720 23.98. So drop in a timeline and let timeline conform to clip. No need to worry about pulldown removal.
