Default avid and/or fcp bay use

I recently started cutting jobs at my home edit bay and have been asked by potential clients what I charge in addition to my day rate as an editor for avid or fcp usage. I know big full service edit houses usually charge like $1000 per day and obviously I wouldn't be charging anywhere near that. Does anyone charge for this and how much? Clients vary from reality pilots and shows to high end promos.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Serena

That really depends on the level of your gear and what you've gotten for jobs in the past. If you've got a year of experience with a G5 and FCP 6- I'd say $250 a day.

If you've been cutting for 10 years and you've got a brand new Mac Pro with FCS 3 and a nice HD calibrated monitor, mixing console, etc then you could easily ask $500-1,000. Also greatly depends on the competition and amount of work in your market. Take what you can get...
