The Position

A render wrangler is responsible for monitoring and controlling the rendering process and for managing the render farm. The wrangler will supervise the rendering process by monitoring all the machines which exist on the render farm. The artists will submit completed work for rendering and it will be then placed in the queue for the wrangler to prioritize and allocate to machines. The wrangler will continuously check the machines to ensure there are no technical or mechanical problems which might interfere with a successful output.

This can be an entry-level position. Training will be provided.

This role offers a good opportunity to gain professional experience and acquire a broad based knowledge of CGI procedures within a production environment.

Tasks

• Monitoring and managing the render farm while keeping it running at maximum capacity
• Monitoring and managing render shots, render pools, inventory of machines, software packages, etc.
• Backing up and restoring files
• Maintaining render priorities and allotted machines per priority
• Assist artists with render job submissions and errors
• Be available for support calls after hours and weekends if necessary

Knowledge and Required Skills

• Extremely detail oriented and organized
• Excellent/superior communication skills
• Fundamental system administration skills and general technical troubleshooting experience
• Fundamental understanding of Maya, Mental Ray, After Effects, Compositing Tools
• High degree of computer literacy
• Ability to analyze situations and problem solve
• Ability to work under pressure, in a fast paced environment
• Ability to learn new software quickly
• Ability to manage and prioritize time/workload
• Ability to record information accurately and produce reports
