Default Timecode Test

I'm testing if FCP can re-create source time code or "Media Start" timecode.

We have video and audio recorded with a timecode matching the hour of the day (08:00:00:00) = 8am.

When I bring in the audio and video track... the Media Start timecode is 08:04:22:15. But once I bring the tracks into the timeline, export as QT movie, and then re-import the file... the Media Start timecode reads 00:00:00:00. Is FCP able to export a file with the original Media Start timecode?

If yes, how?

If not, are there other alternative programs?

When you drop a clip into a Sequence, it becomes part of the "film" and is no longer an independent clip, but part of the whole, thus adopting the timecode of the Sequence. You want to export the clip as an independent clip. Or configure your Sequence Settings to start the Sequence's TC at 08:...

But, a QT export, I think, will revert to showing the TC starting at 0.
