Default Photoshop TIF to FCP 6

I've got a Photoshop .tif file which I am unable to import into FCP 6.0.6. It works perfectly fine in FCP7. What am I doing or not doing? Is there a compatibility issue or a user setting?

"Unable to import"

What's that mean? It's grayed out when you want to select it? It doesn't import? It imports incorrectly?

It means that it says "File Error: Unknown File". It's a tif file with a transparency. It's 9000x6000 in a CMYK color space if that helps. thanks!

Files must be RGB 8-bit. Files cannot be exceed 4000 pixels in any dimension.
