Default Digital Cinema Preview Aspect Ratio Shift

Hi There--

I'm cutting on a MacBook Pro 2.66 Intel Core Duo, with 4GB of RAM, Final Cut 6.0.1 and not using an external monitor, but just using Digital Cinema Preview on my laptop screen. I'm editing RED footage that was shot 4K HD and was transcoded Quarter Res to Apple Pro Res 422, resulting in an aspect ratio of 960x540, which is what my sequence is set to. The image is in the correct aspect ratio when I load the clip in Digital Cinema Preview, but as soon as I hit play the image gets stretched into what looks almost like a 2.40 Letterbox.

I've found some posts on other forums with other people having similar problems, but no one has posted any solutions. Anyone out there got one?

Thanks!

Naomi

Hmmm. Someone with more experience with the RED may have a better answer for you but is your Digital Cinema Preview set to Full Screen or Raw?

It's set to Digital Cinema Desktop Preview - Main. That's the only option when not connected to an external monitor. I'm not sure how relevant the fact that the footage was shot on RED is, since what I imported into FCP was the transcoded Pro Res 422 files. I wonder if it relates more to the aspect ratio that I'm using 960x540--which I guess, to contradict myself--does relate to the fact that we shot RED, since that aspect ratio is a result of transcoding at Quarter Res.

Any other suggestions?

TIA
Naomi
