Systems Administrator - Los Angeles

Prime Focus delivers world-class visual effects and post services to major television and feature film projects. Combining extensive experience in post visual effects production, look development and custom R&D solutions, Prime Focus offers clients a vast range of VFX services. We provide a local presence for production and post-production with integrated, collaborative offices in Los Angeles, Vancouver and Winnipeg, New York, London, and Mumbai India.

We have an immediate need for a Systems Administrator to join our team in our Los Angeles studio. This is a project hire position for a 6-8 week period.

This Position is responsible for assisting in the daily operation, support, maintenance and emergency response of the studios PC and UNIX servers and workstation computers including but not limited to; render farm management, networking, e-mail maintenance, data management, Unix server maintenance and administration, and desktop support.

Education:
University degree or diploma in Computer Science or related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience:
Minimum of 3 years related experience. Demonstrated expert working knowledge of PC systems running as workstations and servers in a networked environment. Proficiency with Windows, Mac and Linux/Unix environments. Experience with a wide range of peripheral devices, Internet services and protocols. Experience troubleshooting technology systems and applications in a complex networked environment. Additional experience in CG render pipelines, and video engineering are also desirable.

Skills:
Demonstrated understanding VFX production environments and cross-platform issues; familiarity with OpenBSD, FreeBSD, Solaris and OS X in a server environment, scripting (shell, Python, Perl), database knowledge beneficial (PostgreSQL, MySQL), LDAP, SNMP, knowledge of core internet protocols, knowledge of standard backup infrastructures, demonstratable proficiency at diagnosing and remedying serious system related problems and failures promptly and effectively. Experience with the following operating systems in a desktop environment; Windows XP x64, BSD/Linux, Mac OS X.

Strong commitment to high quality service. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and patiently with both naive and sophisticated users on both technical and policy issues. Strong initiative and the ability to work both independently and as a member of a team. Analytical skills, rigorous attention to detail enthusiastic attitude, and exceptional time management skills to permit simultaneous action on many tasks, many of which will demand timely completion. Position requires on-call rotation as well.
