VFX Art Director required for season 2 of stylised live action television series, heavy on the use of VFX. The production is Auckland based for an approximately 12 month contract - starting March 2010.
We are seeking an experienced VFX art director to continue to develop the graphic look of the show and provide a conduit between pre-production look development, the shoot and throughout the post of 13 episodes.
Key tasks include:- Liaison between Art Dept and VFX during all aspects of production
- Responsible for visual continuity through inception to final VFX delivery
- Maintain communication between VFX, post, the shoot and the VFX vendors
- Provide concept art when required
- Supply matte painted elements if required
- Identify elements + backgrounds required and facilitate the acquisition or creation of them
- Be pro-active in the approvals process
The successful candidate should have and be:- Proactive and self motivated with a good can-do approach
- 2+ years VFX Art Direction or matte painting in a Feature Film or high resolution TV production environment
- A high level of expertise in producing designs for large screen format.
- Extensive knowledge of various matte painting and compositing techniques
- Some knowledge of traditional painting techniques
- A high proficiency in Photoshop and an understanding of 2D compositing software and 3D projection work
- A strong knowledge of camera focal lengths and a good sense of composition.
- The ability to produce concept art that conveys the style, lighting and character of the brief would be an advantage - and to provide some matte painted elements if necessary
- Willingness to work collaboratively and to share knowledge with the team
- An understanding of the film production or TV pipeline - from prep to post production
