Default Digital noise on capture - please help

Good evening,
I'm trying to log and capture a tape using my Sony HC1 and Mac G5 [CPU Speed: 2 GHz; L2 Cache (per CPU): 1 MB; Memory: 2.5 GB; Bus Speed: 1 GHz] and I'm getting digital noise or artifacts (see attached screen grab) when the video is played in my capture viewer window. I'm using FCP 5.0.4.

The video I'm trying to capture was shot with a Canon XL in SD, and it looks great when played back on my camera's display screen. However, when it's played in the capture window, it develops the problem.

I just captured several clips that were shot with my Sony HC1 and they look great. After completing this capture, I opened a new project, changed the capture settings to DV NTSC 48 khz, saved the project, and then shut down and restarted my camera and my Mac. Subsequently, I've tried various other capture settings in the NTSC realm, but didn't have any luck.

Can anyone help?

thanks - Jeff

1st, you can't judge real video quality on your computer monitor, you'd need a production monitor, or a TV if you're on a budget. Also, what are your playback quality settings? And, is the window set to anything over 100%?
